Moving more for mental health: The Together Project's Songs & Smiles

The power of movement

In honour of Mental Health Awareness Week's theme of "Movement: Moving more for our mental health," this week we're shining a spotlight on the incredible power of movement and its profound impact on our mental wellbeing. Engaging in regular movement not only benefits our physical health but also plays a crucial role in maintaining good mental health. From the tiniest toes tapping to the seasoned feet swaying, every movement in our intergenerational Songs & Smiles music groups is a step towards brighter days and happier hearts.

Picture this:

A room filled with the sound of laughter and music, as tiny tots giggle and clap their hands, older care home residents sway their colourful scarfs to the beat, and parents can’t help but join in the fun. It's a beautiful symphony of movement, joy, and connection - a dance party like no other!

But why is movement so important, you ask?

Well, let's dive into the science behind the magic. Research shows that engaging in music and movement activities can work wonders for our mental health. Not only does it reduce stress and boost mood, but it also promotes a sense of connection and well-being for people of all ages.

And that's exactly what we're all about. Through Songs & Smiles, we're not just bringing people together to sing and dance; we're creating moments of pure joy and connection that have a ripple effect on our mental well-being.

Pledge

So let's pledge to sing together, spread smiles, and celebrate the power of movement in all its forms. Whether you're an older person living in a care home or assisted living scheme, a little one, or their grownup, we invite you to join us on the dance floor and be a part of something truly special.

Move to the music

Together, let's make this week a celebration of movement, music, and mental well-being. Because when we move as one, we strengthen not just our bodies but also our hearts and minds. Let's move to the music!
